Welcome to Zambia

HE Mr Michael Sata
The President of the Republic of Zambia

Dear Visitors,

Welcome to the Zambian section of the Commonwealth of Nations Website.

It is a great honour and privilege for me to be given an opportunity to convey a message on this website. I warmly convey fraternal greetings and good wishes to all the readers.

At the outset, I wish to reaffirm Zambia’s commitment to the Commonwealth fundamental values and principles including tolerance, respect, international peace and security, democracy, good governance, human rights, gender equality, rule of law, independent judiciary, freedom of expression and a political culture that promotes transparency, accountability and economic development.

As a committed member of the Commonwealth, Zambia hosted the third CHOGM in 1979, resulting in the Lusaka Declaration on Racism and Racial Prejudice: the central Commonwealth statement of its abhorrence of all forms of racism, including in members’ own societies.

My Government remains steadfast to virtues of good governance and combating corruption. I am convinced that corruption has devastating effects on any nation’s development prospects. In this regard, Zambia condemns all forms of corruption as it only serves to benefit those with selfish interests at the expense of the many who are wallowing in poverty.

The Zambian Government recognizes the important role that the Commonwealth has continued to play in the development process of the country. As the government steps up interventions to address issues of poverty, hunger, disease and above all, the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Zambia looks forward to work closely with the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Zambia has continued to benefit from the Secretariat’s regional programmes for Africa aimed at building capacity in Africa. In particular, the Commonwealth Youth Programme which has contributed in enhancing youth networks and governance worldwide. The African Regional Centre for the Commonwealth Youth Programme is based in Lusaka.

Zambia is well endowed in natural recourses. In this regard, I invite the business community, worldwide, to consider coming to Zambia and invest in sectors such as Mining, Agriculture, Tourism, Energy and Infrastructure Development and other sectors of their choice. The peaceful political environment and safe security situation, incentives, stable macro–economic environment and investor friendly policies that support private sector development and partnerships, presents an appealing environment for investors.

Zambia has taken constructive steps in the area of attracting foreign direct investment in conformity with the priorities in the Sixth National Development Plan (SNDP) and the Vision 2030. In accordance with these priorities, our efforts for reforms and diversification will continue in an accelerated manner.

Also take time to “Explore Zambia” as the country is blessed with fantastic facilities and tourist attractions that include the Victoria Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world, located in Livingstone, in the southern part of Zambia.

We look forward to welcoming you to Zambia, a country of peace and abundant business opportunities.

Thank you.
