Samoan civil society is particularly active in health matters, gender rights and environmental conservation. The Samoa Family Health Association is assisting the Ministry of Health in delivering reproductive health and family planning services. Mapusaga o Aiga, a women and children human rights body is raising public awareness of domestic violence issues and providing counselling services and practical support to victims of violence and abuse.
The Samoa Umbrella for Non Governmental Organisation (SUNGO) is the country's most recognised NGO apex body. SUNGO works in capacity building, advocacy and trains its member NGOs in network management and sustainable collaboration. Samoa is a member the Commonwealth, United Nations (UN) and its specialised agencies, Africa, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP), Asian Development Bank (AsDB), Group of 77 at the United Nations, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), South Pacific Regional Trade and Economic Co-operation Agreement (SPARTECA), Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) (as an observer).
