Like a number of developing countries within the Commonwealth, Ghana has had its fair share of post-Independence problems, including military interventions and socio-economic stagnation. But, all that is in the past. Ghana is entering its 50th year of nationhood as a constitutional democracy with prosperity, peace, stability and continued good governance as its hall marks.

The nation's economy has achieved a remarkable level of stability over the past five years due to pragmatic economic polices and a commitment to financial discipline. Currently, all indicators point to steady growth, despite the astronomical crude oil prices which the country has to grapple with.

Meanwhile, infrastructural development, particularly ICT, is on-going throughout the country, enhancing economic activities and creating new opportunities for both local and foreign investors. Human capacity building is taking place in all sectors to enable the citizenry to access emerging opportunities for employment. In the medium to long term, a Human Resource Development programme has been initiated through an educational Reform Policy to make the nation's workforce competitive in the global economy.

Further, these polices are designed to prepare the nation to become the financial, commercial and production platform in the West African sub-region for both local and international investors. They also take advantage of the natural geographic location of the country on the intersection of the Equator and the Greenwich Meridian which endows it with easy accessibility from most of the continents of the world.

Ghana is inviting investors to venture into its economy on their own or in partnership with Ghanaian counterparts to exploit the numerous opportunities in agro-business, manufacturing, development of ICT industries, mining and jewellery industries, tourism and real estate to name but a few.

Now is the time to come, as the country and its people proceed confidently into a new era of sustained peace and stability, economic growth and prosperity, while re-launching themselves into the next half century of nationhood.
